Are we assuming Alma is a she?

Did you just assume Alma's gender by a mere picture?

The colour of its background only reflects the gender of the character, not the gender of the player. How would the PS3 have any clue whether the player was actually male or female? Or do you just assume that people would never create a character that didn't match their gender?

I play in EvE where half the characters are female, but only about 6% are actual female players. The rest of the female characters are female alts to a male player. Some are actually a male player's primaries, mine included. There are also some male characters that are alts of female players but this I believe is rarer - most female players seem to use female characters and perhaps identify with them.

It boils down to whether a player IDENTIFIES with their character(s) or not. If you have one and only one character, you probably identify with him/her. If you have multiple alts, all different, with different genders, you are playing as a person who is disconnected from their characters, commanding their actions rather than BEING them.

You honestly believe that because someone's character profile is female, that player is female? Seriously?
